About Grant Mandolins

An interest in timber work and love of music created the desire to build musical instruments. I built my first mandolin in 1996 and now produce a limited number of hand built instruments each year.

My workshop is on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands west of Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, Australia.

In addition to building our own home, my wife, Maria and I, have grown and planted about 2000 rainforest trees on our 2.5 hectare property. Truly a renewable resource, this planting includes fine local tonewood trees, six species of Queensland maple, about twenty five species of the silky oak family, plus Queensland Walnut, Queensland Ebony, and Flame Oak.
